This Privacy Policy explains how **William du Plooy**, the developer and operator of Romistry ("Romistry", "we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, stores, shares, and deletes information in connection with the Romistry application and website.
Romistry is an interactive storytelling platform in which users create accounts, create fictional characters and avatars, write stories, and interact with artificial intelligence to continue those stories.
By using Romistry, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
## 1. Information We Collect
Romistry collects information that is necessary to provide the service.
### Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
* Username;
* Password; and
* Account-related information necessary to operate your account.
Passwords are not stored in plain text. They are stored using secure one-way password hashing.
### Avatar and Character Information
Romistry allows you to create fictional characters and avatars.
This may include:
* Character names;
* Character descriptions;
* Character personalities;
* Character backgrounds;
* Avatar images; and
* Other information you choose to associate with a fictional character.
You may use fictional information when creating your avatar.
### Stories and Conversations
Romistry stores content that you create or submit through the service, including:
* Stories;
* Story settings and context;
* Conversation history;
* Messages exchanged with the AI;
* Published stories; and
* Other User Content that you choose to create or save.
Because Romistry is an interactive storytelling service, conversation content may include personal information if you voluntarily include such information in your stories or conversations.
You should therefore avoid entering sensitive personal information that is not necessary for your use of Romistry.
### Coin Information
Romistry records information necessary to operate its virtual-coin system, including your available coin balance and transactions or allocations associated with your account.
Romistry may provide free coins, including coins provided at account creation and periodic free allocations.
Paid coin purchases may be introduced in the future.
### Technical Information
Romistry does not intentionally collect:
* GPS location;
* precise or approximate location;
* contacts;
* camera data;
* microphone or audio data;
* SMS information;
* phone-call information;
* advertising identifiers; or
* device identifiers.
Romistry does not require permissions to access device hardware for its core functionality.
We also do not intentionally collect IP addresses as part of Romistry's normal account functionality.
## 2. How We Use Information
We use information for purposes including:
* Creating and maintaining your account;
* Authenticating users;
* Providing interactive storytelling;
* Storing your stories and conversations;
* Generating AI responses;
* Creating and displaying avatars and characters;
* Publishing stories when you choose to publish them;
* Allowing you to unpublish or delete content;
* Managing virtual coins;

We do not sell your personal information.
## 3. Artificial Intelligence and DeepSeek
Romistry uses the **DeepSeek API** to generate AI responses.
When you interact with the AI, Romistry sends the information necessary to generate the requested response.
This includes the relevant **current conversation and story context**.
Romistry does not intentionally send your username, account password, account information, or unrelated personal information to DeepSeek as part of the AI request.
The conversation and story context may nevertheless contain personal information if you voluntarily included such information in your story or conversation.
DeepSeek is an independent third-party service provider. Information transmitted to DeepSeek is processed according to the terms and policies applicable to DeepSeek's API services.
DeepSeek's API is used to process the supplied conversation context and generate a response. Romistry does not control DeepSeek's independent processing systems.
You should review DeepSeek's current privacy and service documentation for additional information about its processing practices.
Romistry does not represent that information transmitted to DeepSeek is never retained, cached, or otherwise processed by DeepSeek beyond the immediate generation of a response.
## 4. Published Stories
Romistry allows users to publish stories for other users to read.
When you publish a story, information associated with the fictional character or avatar used in that story may be visible to other users.
You are not required to disclose your real-world identity when creating a fictional character.
You should not include your real name, contact details, address, passwords, financial information, or other private information in a story that you intend to publish.
Once you publish content, other Romistry users may be able to view and copy information contained within that content.
You may unpublish a story when the applicable functionality is available.
## 5. User Reports and Moderation
Users may report stories or other content that they believe violates Romistry's Terms of Service or applicable rules.
Reported content may be reviewed by authorized Romistry personnel.
Information contained in reported material may therefore be accessed by those personnel for the purposes of investigating reports, enforcing the Terms of Service, protecting users, and maintaining the service.
## 6. Sharing of Information
Romistry may share or disclose information only where reasonably necessary to operate the service, comply with law, protect users, or provide functionality requested by the user.
This may include sharing relevant story and conversation information with DeepSeek for AI processing as described above.
We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to:
* Comply with legal obligations;
* Respond to lawful legal requests;
* Prevent fraud, abuse, or security threats;
* Protect the rights, property, or safety of users or third parties; or
* Protect the security and integrity of Romistry.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not share your account password with third parties.
## 7. Public Information
When you choose to publish a story, the story and associated fictional character/avatar information may become publicly accessible to other Romistry users.
Publishing content is a user-controlled action.
You should carefully consider what information you include in published content.
## 8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information held by Romistry against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Passwords are stored using secure one-way password hashing.
Information transmitted between your device and Romistry's services should be protected using appropriate encrypted connections where supported.
However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
## 9. Data Retention
We retain account information, stories, conversations, avatar information, and related information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Romistry's services or until you delete your account or the relevant content.
You may delete individual content, including published stories, using the functionality provided by Romistry.
When you delete your account, Romistry will delete the information associated with that account, including:
* Account information;
* Password information;
* Stories;
* Published stories;
* Conversation history;
* Avatar and character information; and
* Coin/account information.
Temporary technical copies may remain for a limited period as part of ordinary backups or security processes.
Information may also be retained where required by law or where necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
## 10. Account Deletion
Romistry provides account deletion:
1. through the account-deletion functionality within the App; and
2. through the Romistry website.

When an account deletion request is completed, the associated account information and User Content will be deleted as described in this Privacy Policy.
## 11. Children's Privacy
Romistry is intended for users aged **18 and older**.
Romistry does not knowingly permit persons under 18 to create or maintain accounts.
If we become aware that a person under 18 has created an account, we may take steps to terminate the account and delete associated information.
